“The best and most loyal fans in Rugby League” – Super League side make bold claim

One Super League side has made the bold claim that their fans are the best in the great sport of Rugby League and given the evidence, it’s quite hard to refute it.

London Broncos social media team took to X, formerly Twitter, last night to salute seven of the best fans in the game. Yes, you read that right. Seven.

Word had it that only four Broncos fans were turning up for the bottom-of-the-table clash against Castleford Tigers last night, but the Broncos responded with a tweet heralding the magnificent seven who travelled over 400 miles and eight hours to support Mike Eccles’ side.

Not only did those seven fans make the 204-mile journey up north, but they do so week in and week out, leaving the Broncos’ social media team to laud them for the thousands of miles a season that they travel supporting their heroes.

Attention to those fans impressive show of support was first reported by BBC Radio Leeds’ brilliant Rugby League journalist James Deighton, known to plenty for leading weekly press conferences with Super League’s West Yorkshire sides.

Deighton posted on X: “I just overheard the stewards’ briefing – apparently 4 away tickets have been sold for tonight’s game. Those 4 fans deserve to be applauded.”

It was in fact seven, something he later corrected himself on, before London also paid tribute to their brilliant fans.

It’s hard to refute London’s claim that their handful of loyal supporters aren’t among the best in Super League. Ask yourself, would you spend hundreds if not thousands of pounds, and countless hours of travel following your team knowing you were destined for relegation regardless of the result?

That’s the sad situation that London Broncos have found themselves in thanks to the controversial IMG era of grading, the Broncos being labelled as the lowest Grade B club in the professional Rugby League pyramid when the preliminary grades were announced back in October.

Moreover, the results that London have sustained this season haven’t offered those loyal seven and the other Broncos’ fans much to cheer about with the capital’s club sat winless at the foot of Super League after conceding 348 points in just nine games.

In Super League so far the Broncos have scored just 14 tries, two for each of their travelling fans last night who sadly didn’t see a score for their team as Castleford routed them 40-0.

That shouldn’t matter though, the fact is that they made the epic journey and will continue to do so weekly, something that has to be acknowledged as incredible dedication that will hopefully be repaid with a maiden Super League win in the near future.

Huddersfield Giants also joined in the fan appreciation with a tweet of their own, lauding the small but loyal following that goes wherever they do. These fans truly are the heartbeat of their club and are the heartbeat of our great game.

It leads us to think, what club has the best fans in Super League? Yes the bigger clubs have the larger following, but they also share most of the glory. We’ll leave this one to you to decide.
