RL Rumours: Former Warrington Wolves star linked with shock return, Hull FC move for NRL halfback and Castleford Tigers face quota dilemma

Below is a round-up of all the biggest rumours and gossip from the world of rugby league over the past week.

Former Warrington star to return? 

Warrington have been bolstering their pack in recent weeks. They announced the capture of Wakefield forward Jordan Crowther last week, and have already confirmed the arrival of Lachlan Fitzgibbon from next season; but they could also be about to bring back a former star. Earlier this season, Warrington lost the services of prop Thomas Mikaele as he returned to Australia; however reports have now emerged that the Wolves are making a shock move to bring the forward back on a short-term deal. Wire are also linked with a move for St George Illawarra prop Zane Musgrove, so watch this space ahead of the deadline.

Hull FC lining up Clifford replacement?

Hull FC are linked with a move for Newcastle Knights halfback Adam Clune, according to reports in Australia. Speaking on the Toohey’s News podcast, Newcastle Herald reporter Barry Toohey said: “I think there is interest. Hull are keen on Adam Clune and that is the talk. Whether he is prepared to go to England, I’m not 100% sure and there is talk that he is not,”.

Castleford Tigers face dilemma

Castleford Tigers have been busy in the market recently. In the last month, they have announced the signings of Jordan Johnstone, Alex Foster, Billy Tsikrikas and Liam Horne; however the arrivals of Tsikrikas and Horne now mean the club faces a dilemma, as they need to deregister one of their quota players.

Challenge Cup winner in shock Super League move?

St George Illawarra Dragons prop Ben Murdoch-Masila could be on his way back to the UK, with reports emerging down under that he won’t be offered a new deal by the Dragons. The former Warrington and Salford player’s deal with St George Illawarra expires next season, meaning he will be free to negotiate a move ahead of the 2025 season. The prop, who won the Challenge Cup during his time at Warrington, came close to a Super League return last season with Catalans Dragons.

Former Wigan star to return home? 

Ryan Sutton could be on the verge of a dramatic return to Super League, after reportedly being told he can look for alternative options ahead of the 2024 season. Sutton, a Grand Final winner during his time at Wigan, only joined the Bulldogs this season after spending four years at the Canberra Raiders. He has been previously linked with a move to Leeds Rhinos, however he will be high on many Super League club’s shopping list.

Cross-code star to make Rugby League comeback

Former Catalans Dragons man Corentin Le Cam is set to return to Rugby League, with reports surfacing in France that the six foot nine inch forward is set to sign with a club in French Elite One. Le Cam made the switch to Union last year, joining Ceret in the French Federal 1 league.

Super League forward to be released 

Catalans Dragons are set to release forward Siosiua Taukeiaho, according to reports in France. Taukeiaho joined the Dragons ahead of the 2023 season, but now looks set to leave the Perpignan-based club early.
