“Massive coup” – Have Hull KR secured the signing of 2025?

Hull KR have signed Jared Waerea-Hargreaves for the 2025 Super League season

Hull KR are in the process of building a special squad under coach, Willie Peters. The Robins have proved this season they can challenge the best when they won back-to-back games against Wigan and St Helens.

KR are also in the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup, having made the final last year, and are threatening to break the pattern of the same elite clubs always taking home the major silverware season after season.

Earlier this week, their planning for 2025 stepped up a gear. KR announced the signing of highly-rated Hull FC forward, Jack Brown. Yusuf Aydin moved in the opposite direction on a permanent deal.

They followed this up by securing the loan signing of Danny Richardson from Castleford Tigers, with the former St Helens scrum-half providing much-needed strength-in-depth behind Mikey Lewis and Tyrone May.

It is, on paper, more fantastic recruitment from Rovers, who are continuing to impress in the transfer market as they look to become one of the competition’s most successful teams.

Speaking exclusively to Serious About Rugby League, former NRL and Super League forward, Matt Adamson, revealed he believes the Robins may have already secured the signing of 2025.

Hull KR have pulled off “massive coup”

According to Adamson, incoming prop, Jared Waerea Hargreaves will make a huge impact in Red and White next season. The 35-year-old New Zealand international will join from the Sydney Roosters.

When asked which player from the NRL he would most like to see in Super League, Adamson believes that player is ‘already heading over there’, as he picked out the Sydney Roosters man.

“Well I think one of them is actually going to do it which is Jared Waerea-Hargreaves,” said Adamson. “I have a huge respect for him as a player because he still plays the game on that knife’s edge in his aggression and the dominance in which he drives the game up front through that middle third.

“So, I think that’s really exciting you know, going to Hull KR, and the British fans. It’s a massive coup, I believe to get a player of that quality.”

Adamson enjoyed a spell in Super League with Leeds Rhinos between 2002 and 2004. He was an important part of the side which laid the foundations for Leeds’ Golden Generation, winning the club’s first Super League title in his final season at Headingley.

As a former forward, Adamson is excited to see a player of Waerea-Hargreaves’ stature in Super League. He is particularly excited to see him play in front of the KR faithful.

“I love seeing big, big, tough forwards like Jared. I think he’ll be outstanding and become a real crowd favourite for the whole KR fans. And they’re doing a phenomenal job.

“He suits the British game down to the ground. He is a massive coup for the competition because that’s what fans want to see more of, especially over there, that physicality and aggression that British forwards are known for.

“So yeah, when I look at which players would really thrive in Super League, I would pick him out. It’s ironic because he’s already heading for the UK and has signed for Hull KR.

“Jared might be at the back end of his career, but you can’t tell with the way he still players and the level he performs at. He will be brilliant in Super League.”
