Hull FC interim head coach Simon Grix has given his reaction to Hull FC’s embarrassing defeat at the hands of London Broncos.
For all Hull were poor in Wimbledon, the Broncos were impressive as they scored six tries to win their first Super League game of the season.
It was a humiliating display from FC who despite being ahead 18-16 in the early part of the second half, capitulated to lose 34-18 as London scored 18 unanswered points.
It was a new low in a season of lows for the Black and Whites, who now sit joint bottom of the Super League table just above today’s opponents on points difference.
Grix reacts to another Hull FC loss
Defeat in London was Hull’s ninth in a row and their 14th in 16 games when combining the end of last season with the start of this one.
Unsurprisingly Grix, who is trying to land the job permanently, was upset with the performance and believes his players need to show more toughness if they are to win another game this season.
“It doesn’t feel great,” said Grix. “They deserved it and I thought they were really good. They showed what we were lacking. It was scrappy but they had some endeavour, spirit and fight about them.
“We were not tough enough and we didn’t have that fight to claw our way back.
“If you don’t have the fight and desire to make your tackles and to be desperate when you need to be then rugby league has an uncanny knack of finding you out.”
The defeat was Grix’s fourth in a row since he took interim charge last month, with fans now calling for a new head coach to be appointed immediately so the club can start to move forward.
London Broncos delighted with first win
For London it was a day to remember. With by far the lowest budget in Super League, their ability to win this game should not be overlooked.
Inspired by the halves combination of James Meadows and Oliver Leyland, the Broncos played some slick rugby and were deserved winners on the day. It’s a win that takes them level with Hull on two competition points.
Head coach Mike Eccles was delighted, saying: “To get that done was huge. It’s a massive win for the club. That was a real London Broncos performance today.
“I thought we moved the ball and we did what we had to do. I had every confidence in them to do that (produce a performance and win).”
