Ex Man of Steel winner hints at possible Super League return

Salford Red Devils host St Helens today in a match that sees the club celebrate their 150th anniversary, but also sees them have a chance to jump back into the playoffs if they can defeat the reigning Super League champions.

Paul Rowley’s men are on a poor run of form losing their last six games but facing a potentially banged up St Helens is a great opportunity to get back in the win column, even more so now that Salford are boosted by the return of Marc Sneyd and Kallum Watkins.

Salford’s push for the playoffs could see them head to the Grand Final for the second time in their history, the last time being under the on field leadership of Jackson Hastings,ย the Australian being incredibly influential and earning himself a Man of Steel nod

Hastings is back down under forging his career in the NRL helping guide Newcastle Knights back into the playoffs, but he’s sent a message of support to the Red Devils ahead of their anniversary match.

In a tweet sent by the club the former Great Britain international wishes the club a happy birthday.

Hastings said: “Hey guys, Jackson Hastings here. I just want to give a huge birthday shoutout to the mighty Salford Red Devils, reaching 150 years. It’s an amazing milestone and an amazing achievement.

“I’m proud to have played my part in the club and am extremely grateful to have met all of you in the community of Salford including the members, the fan base and everyone involved.

“That 2019 Grand Final will stick in my memories for years to come, we had such a great team and all of you guys that supported the club were a part of it.

“Love you guys and shout out to the boys who can hopefully go and get the win for the club miss you all and go the mighty Red Devils!”

Hastings then retweeted that video message with a message to the club’s Director of Rugby, Ian Blease, one that might excite Salford fans.

Could we ever see Hastings in Super League again?
