Super League Disciplinary: Star has suspension completely overturned

Tonight saw the latest Operational Rules Tribunal in the ongoing Super League Disciplinary saga.

Earlier today it was confirmed that two Super League Disciplinary cases would be subject to appeals.

Leigh Leopards star John Asiata received a Grade A Dangerous Contact charge in their 12-4 loss to St Helens two weeks ago, however, the appeal was set to be heard tonight following both the club and the RFL having ‘prior arrangements’.

The incident occurred following a tackle on Sione Mata’utia, similar to Agnatius Paasi’s and Alex Walmsley’s incidents.

Elsewhere, Hull KR’s Corey Hall will also appeal his charge of Grade D Head Contact from the Robins reserve game against Warrington Wolves.

The former Wakefield man received a two-match ban for the incident, which comes into effect from this weekend’s Challenge Cup clash against Salford Red Devils due to games below Super League level being reviewed later in the week and bans being enforced later too.

Super League Disciplinary Verdicts

So, initially two Super League Disciplinary cases were set to be heard but it was then confirmed late this afternoon that the Asiata appeal was deferred to next week.

As for Hall, he had his ban overturned and is now free to play. Hull KR confirmed the news with the following statement:

“Following a successful appeal today, we can confirm that Corey Hall’s two match penalty notice has been lifted and is now free to play.”

He is a very promising young talent one who Willie Peters has previously said would one day play for England after he praised the usual centre for being able to play backrow as well.

Peters previously said: “And then Corey, obviously we’ve got to look at the make-up of the bench, but Corey, and I want to keep, you know, it’s important that I make the point that Corey’s best rugby league is going to be in two years’ time, like he’s 21 now.

“He’s going to be, well I believe, he can be a future England player. So we need to develop him and he needs to play. While we play him in the back row, we don’t have a great deal of depth there, but he actually wants to be closer to the action and we know he can play centre. So as I say, the more that Corey plays the better he’s going to be. He’s best footies ahead, that’s for sure.”
