Super League Disciplinary: Two clubs appeal controversial charges

In the latest round of Super League Disciplinary decisions, the verdicts on Leigh Leopards and Hull KR’s appeals of John Asiata and Corey Hall’s charges will soon be revealed.

Asiata received a Grade A Dangerous Contact charge for his tackle in the opening stages of Leigh Leopards’ 12-4 loss to St Helens on March 1, over two weeks ago.

Corey Hall received a Grade D Head Contact charge for an incident in a Hull KR Reserves fixture against Warrington Wolves, and was given a two-match penalty notice, in effect from their Challenge Cup fixture against Salford Red Devils.

Serious About Rugby League can confirm that both clubs decided to appeal and those appeals will be heard tonight.

According to Leigh Leopards owner Derek Beaumont, Asiata’s appeal decision was postponed until next week due to both the RFL and the Leigh Leopards having prior commitments.

Speaking to the media, head coach Adrian Lam explained why the club was appealing the decision: “Just the principle of it, really.

“It’s something that we feel very strongly about, that players are being charged at the moment that shouldn’t be charged and just for the sake of that, we’re fighting to make sure that John doesn’t get a warning.

“The way that it works, if he’s charged, he gets a warning, and if you get three warnings, you get a week’s suspension. If we can beat that warning, that won’t be on his record.”

Meanwhile, Corey Hall’s ban was delayed as games below Super League are reviewed late in the week and bans aren’t given until the next week, to give clubs the right to appeal. There will be a tribunal to address these Super League disciplinary cases.
