Super League club unable to name full squad for huge fixture

Leeds Rhinos, Warrington Wolves, Hull KR and Salford Red Devils are still battling for play off spots.

This makes the meeting between Hull KR and Salford Red Devils one of the biggest of the season and the biggest between the two since 2016 when Salford relegated Hull KR in their own back yard in the Million Pound Game in Golden Point extra time after a superb drop goal from Gareth O’Brien.

Hull KR will be hoping for a different outcome this time as the two reunite.

The Robins may have an advantage with Salford ravaged by illness as Paul Rowley revealed.

The Salford coach revealed that the Red Devils hadn’t been able to train due to being a Covid like lockdown.

They have also only been able to name a 20 man squad missing Brad Singleton due to a ban which the Red Devils appealed.

An appeal against the one-match suspension and £500 fine imposed on the Salford Red Devils forward Brad Singleton for a Grade B high tackle in the Betfred Super League fixture against Warrington Wolves has been rejected.

Following Salford’s appeal, a new three-person independent tribunal was convened, and endorsed the decision of the Operational Rules Tribunal which on Tuesday evening rejected an initial challenge to the Grade B charge determined by the Match Review Panel on Monday.

The Appeals Tribunal’s summary concluded: “We do not consider that the original tribunal failed to act fairly in a procedural sense nor consider that the failure to allow further submissions from the club resulted in unfairness to the club or the player – as a result the appeal is dismissed.”

Salford Red Devils forfeit another £500 bond, and the punishment of a one-match suspension and a £500 fine remains – meaning Singleton is unavailable for Saturday’s Betfred Super League Round 26 fixture at Hull KR.
