Hull KR are a club on the up, and head coach, Willie Peters, has been instrumental in recent success. Peters took over from previous coach for ahead of the 2023 season. In his one full season in charge, he took KR to a Challenge Cup final and fourth place finish in Super League.
This season, KR have started strongly again. They have qualified for the Challenge Cup semi-final again. A mouth-watering semi-final clash against Wigan waits on the horizon. They are also firmly in contention to finish in the top four.
However, Peters’ success was bound to win admirers. He has recently been linked with a move away from Craven Park. Those rumours have intensified since Jason Demetriou left his position at South Sydney Rabbitohs. Peters has been heavily linked with the opening.
Hull KR boss Peters very happy at club
However, Peters has moved to quash talk of a move to Souths. Speaking in his weekly press conference, Peters stated that he is happy in East Hull. He intends to see out his contract and achieve more success with KR.
“My contract is up to 2025 and I’m very happy at the club”, stressed Peters. “My family and I love the club and are very happy here.
“Do I have (NRL) aspirations down the track? Yeah, I do. But I’ve got a job here that I want to fulfil – and hopefully I can fulfil that for a while.
“There’s a vision at the club that I share. We’ve started a job and I’d like to stay and finish it.”
Peters open to extending stay at KR
When asked if he would be open to extending his stay at KR Peters did not rule out the possibility. However, he stated that his decision would depend on his family’s willingness to stay in England.
“Certainly but that’s a decision for the club and myself to look at,” Peters stated.
“It’s something we’ll certainly look at. When you’ve got a wife and two young boys, that’s the major part you’ve got to get right first. If they’re not happy, naturally I’m not happy and can’t work properly.
“Family is number one and rugby league is a close second – but don’t tell them that! They love it in England and everyone is happy at the moment.”
Overall, Peters is happy with his position at KR. He reiterated his love of the club and his pride in his work there.
“I love the club, what we’re doing and where we’re heading. It’s an honour to be able to coach this group. I love coming into work every day.
“It’s a special club with a lot of special people. The players certainly drive the environment we’ve got here.”
Hull KR fans will be desperate for this love affair to continue as long as possible.
