Hull KR star facing spell on the sidelines as Peters issues trio of injury updates

Hull KR head coach Willie Peters

After Hull KR players suffered three injuries at the weekend, head coach Willie Peters has provided an injury update on his side.

Three players – Oli Gildart, Elliot Minchella and James Batchelor – all picked up issues on matchday.

Despite this, the Robins made it a memorable display as they defeated St Helens 40-20 in a stunning seven-try performance.

As part of his pre-match press conference ahead of their game against Warrington Wolves, Willie Peters gave an injury update on his players.

Oli Gildart’s problem was with his knee, and was the only one of the three that missed out on the 20-man squad Peters named on Tuesday.

On his situation, the February coach of the month said: “We’re just waiting for scans with Oli, just to confirm what it will be.

“So yeah, we’re hoping that we’ll find out this afternoon. If not, it’ll be early tomorrow morning.

“But yeah, at this stage, he’s obviously no good to go for Thursday.”

When asked if they may not be able to call on Gildart for a while, suggesting it could be a longer-term injury, he added: “There’s a possibility. We’ll know more this afternoon or tomorrow.”

Batchelor, meanwhile, had a problem with his eye, while Minchella picked up a groin injury and left the field late on.

Peters said: “[Batchelor is] okay, he got poked in the eye and had blurred vision. It’s settling down.

“Yeah, same with Mini (Minchella), we need to wait until pretty much tomorrow and make a decision on that, and then we’ll work out who will go over and play Warrington.

“We’ve named him in the squad at the moment but we we need to probably look at another 24 hours before we make a final decision.”

It seems to be much the same situation for the two players at this stage.

On Minchella, he said: “I mean, he’s named in the squad so there’s a potential chance he’ll play, but we’ll know more in the next 24 hours.

“We’ll know more tomorrow once we do some more testing with them.”

Asked whether there are any other issues within the squad, he said: “Yeah, a few niggles.

“I mean, no doubt, you start to get more and more this time of the year. So, most teams have got them, don’t they?

“It’s mainly just niggles and you know, we’ve got a short turnaround. So we’ll just freshen the guys up and we’ll be ready to go.”

Hull KR travel to the Halliwell Jones Stadium to face Warrington Wolves at 8pm on Thursday 9th May.
