Last night England’s World Cup hopes in football were dealt a bit of a blow when they were held to a 0-0 draw by the United States.
It of course prompted widespread debate not least in the rugby league community who somewhat tore into football for being boring compared to rugby league with many fans wishing we could go back to the excitement of the Rugby League World Cup.
Keighley Cougars, newly promoted into the Betfred Championship and always perpetuators of excitement through their Cougarmania.
After reacting to Wales’ defeat to Iran earlier in the day, they were back again after England drew:
😅 We were holding out for something witty, at least when @England_RL lose or draw we still get entertainment and drama!#JoinThePride https://t.co/CQvUPiZ78H

If England go on and win the World Cup, whoever scores the winning goal will go alongside England wheelchair star tom Halliwell as men who have delivered World Cup glory to the country in 2022.
Halliwell scored the winner in the wheelchair final a week back in a 28-24 against holders France.
He took to Twitter to say the Rugby League World Cup wouldn’t be home to such a “boring” game.
Wouldn’t have games this boring at #RLWC2021 🤷🏻♂️

One fan was quick to compare the game to the brilliant affair between Australia and New Zealand at Elland Road in the Rugby League World Cup semi-finals which was widely considered a classic and one of the best games we’ve seen for some time:
A couple of weeks ago we witnessed one of the best game’s ever Australia v New Zealand in the #RLWC2021 👏😊🏈tonight we had #FIFAWorldCup 🥴🥴

Another fan compared the excitement of the Rugby League World Cup with the “dull as dishwater” football clash:

Some focused on the wheelchair game specifically in comparison:
Last friday #RLWC2021 wheelchair Rugby = exciting. Tonight #ENGUSA = boring. And they say this is supposed to be the beautiful game. 🙄

Others called for the return of the Rugby League World Cup as a whole:
Watching the #eng v #usa game and I'm reminded how dull I find football. This game is so slow, England seem to have no go forward.
Can we bring back the #RLWC2021
