Super League coach addresses the inevitable exit of overseas star

Last week Wakefield Trinity stunned plenty of supporters when they announced the signing of David Fifita.

However, Trinity have seven overseas players meaning their quota is full which means the club will have to lose one of their current seven overseas players.

Mark Applegarth addressed this last week.

“We’ve got some long-term injuries there so again I’ve been focusing on the playing side of it. There’s off-field staff taking care of that,” he said on BBC Radio Leeds.

“We’ve got three of our quota players currently out injured so there’ll be some movement there and when we’re ready to announce it then the club will announce it.

“I don’t get involved, I just focus on the on-field stuff. The relevant people have been speaking with the RFL and I’m just happy that Dave can play on Sunday.

“I hope there is a time when we’ve got everyone fit, we’ve not had that situation and it’d be a nice headache to have but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. When you’re bottom of the league then you worry about the here and now. We need some quality bodies on the field and Dave Fifita is a quality body, that’s all I’ve been focusing on.”

Today, he was again asked about this.

Applegarth was unable to add more on the matter: “I’ll let the off-field staff sort all that.

“When we start getting a few bodies back, you’ll see.”
