Super League April Player of the Month revealed

The Super League Player of the Month for April has been revealed.

Players were chosen for their performances across the three games in the month of April, with six nominees.

The Warrington Wolves duo of James Harrison and Matt Dufty are included thanks to impressive performances in a month the side comfortably beat Leeds Rhinos, edged past Leigh Leopards and lost to Salford Red Devils. Dufty’s tries have earned him two nominations in a row for Player of the Month, but Harrison has been just as important, helping his side win the territorial battles and even popping up to score at times.

Tim Lafai is included from Salford Red Devils, and was key to important wins over London Broncos and Warrington Wolves. He scored a fantastic try to open the scoring against Warrington.

It was Jonny Lomax‘s late drop-goal that got St Helens over the line against Huddersfield Giants, and he was part of a 58-0 drubbling of Hull FC. He was also impressive against Catalans, despite a disappointing defeat.

Peta HikuĀ is the lone player from Hull KR named in the nominees despite a huge 50-10 win over London Broncos and an important, statement-making victory over Wigan Warriors. He picked up tries in both of those victories, but couldn’t save the Robins from a rare poor performance against Catalans Dragons, where they lost 36-6.

Super League April Player of the Month revealed

There were some top nominees, but it’s Super League’s top try scorer for 2024, Adam Swift, who picks up the award for his incredible April performances.

His tally of five tries in three games in the month of April meant he was always likely to receive a nomination (although, admittedly, Innes Senior’s six in three seemingly didn’t warrant one) and he was key in a storming Huddersfield attack.

They scored 102 points in their three Super League games and only lost by a point to St Helens.

He also scored a hat-trick against Hull FC as they put 56 points past the Black and Whites.

His performances have continued into the start of May, and he scored in a tight 16-18 defeat to Salford Red Devils at the weekend.

He’ll be hoping to help the Giants continue their impressive run of form with a victory over Wigan Warriors on Saturday.
