Super League club interested in two World Cup stars

Transfer stories are making their way round non-stop at the moment it seems whether it is interest from Wigan Warriors in Adam Keighran, Leeds Rhinos’ decision on a halfback, Hull FC star Jake Clifford being linked with the NRL or Warrington Wolves signing Lachlan Fitzgibbon, the rumour mill keeps on spinning week to week.

There are a number of clubs who have been linked with immediate signings such as injury hit Hull KR and strugglers Wakefield Trinity but Castleford Tigers have also been among them as well.

However, these clubs also have to be mindful of signing players for 2024 as well and the Tigers are reportedly interested in Papua New Guinea World Cup stars Nixon Putt and Sylvester Namo and Andy Last today confirmed that interest.

“Yeah, definitely on the radar. Two players that we’ve looked at with interest, players that have got good pedigree,” he said.

“You know, he played against the England team in the World Cup, was very, very dominant in that PNG team.

“The age profile, they’re certainly players that we’ve had a good look at.”

There is a slight concern over Namo however: “Yeah, he’s recovering from a knee injury.”

However, Last said he wouldn’t be too concerned about this expecting him to be fit for next year:

“Potentially, but we’ve had a good look. He’s only 22 years of age, so he’s of a good age and yeah he’s obviously picked up a bit of an injury.

“But you know that was you know I think it was over two months ago now so and if we you know were to you know sign him you know he’d be available in the early rounds for next season so you know there’s a little bit of short-term pain for long-term game if we obviously did sign that chap.”
