Sheffield make seven re-signings

Sheffield Eagles have made seven re-signings in the past week as the club continue to build their squad for the 2020 season.

Izaac Farrell, James Glover, James Davey, Paddy Burns, Aaron Brown, Brad Knowles and Frankie Mariano have all signed new one-year deals for 2021.

Their re-signings take the Eagles squad for 2021 to 12, with more re-signings and new recruits to come.

On the re-signings, Sheffield head coach Mark Aston said: “Izaac has had a tough time with a few knock backs He’s not the finished article but who is? If we get it right, he’ll be around us for a good few years.

“I saw enough from James (Glover) before he got his injury to know he’s got class and potential. He is a great character and that is something which we miss within the game nowadays.

“James (Davey) gives massive amounts to the squad, who respect him, and we’ll see more from James this year with the ‘six again’ rule change.

“What a great kid he (Burns) is and he’s tough as teak. He’s at the right age level to be around the place for years to come. He plays it tough and people haven’t seen the best of Paddy Burns just yet.

“We have seen some good stuff from him (Brown) but there’s more to come from him, 100 percent. I have played him in the centres, half-back, hooker and of course at 13 but his utility and how he adapts to it is brilliant.

“Brad is hard as nails and I still believe there’s more to come. His attitude towards the club and being the best, he can be is second to none. He plays hard, hits hard and those are the sort of people I love within the squad.

“I love Frankie to bits and we haven’t seen the best out of him just yet. I know the quality of the player matches the quality of the bloke and we need him to get an injury-free run so he gets that consistency. If he gets a massive pre-season, he’ll have a great impact on our squad.”
