Huddersfield Giants forward makes loan move following arrest

Fenton Rogers

Bradford Bulls have confirmed that they have brought in Huddersfield Giants forward Fenton Rogers on a loan deal with the youngster returning to the club.

Rogers made headlines for the wrong reasons over Easter when it was confirmed that he had been arrested and charged with drink driving as well as the assault of an emergency worker, revealed to be a police officer.

That news was confirmed by Huddersfield Giants who released a statement confirming that the 20-year-old would be suspended after an ‘incident’ that had led to him being “detained for questioning by police”.

Further revelations came from Oldham Police via their X account which provided an update after midday on Good Friday, posting: “Bank Holiday weekend off to a swing with drink driver arrested and police officer assaulted At 12:30am this morning (Friday 29 March), officers spotted a vehicle driving dangerously on Platting Road, Saddleworth.

“CHARGED: Fenton Rogers (04/08/2003) of Wrigley Street, Oldham has been charged with drink driving and has been bailed in relation to an assault of an emergency worker. The 20-year-old has been bailed ahead of scheduled appearance at Tameside Magistrates Court on 16/05/2024.”

Ian Watson was also asked about the situation at his press conference in which he explained that Rogers would be learning and paying the consequences of his actions, describing the situation as still being “very raw”.

That’s perhaps why it’s such a surprise to see Roegrs on the move so quickly with Bradford Bulls now confirming that he will join them on a loan deal.

Rogers will replace Dan Okoro who has been signed by Warrington Wolves on a permanent deal that has involved a transfer fee, also announced tonight.

Bradford also released a statement on their website confirming the loan deal with Rogers having previously made 26 appearances for the club during the 2023 season.

Head Coach Eamon O’Carroll said:“ It’s a huge boost, he is a player we have monitored and looked get back for some time, luckily for him he could play Super League so he will be a really welcome addition.

“Everyone speaks highly of Fenton, he comes back in a better place on the back of that experience here last year, he’s had a full-time pre-season with Huddersfield so I am sure he will be a huge addition.

“Another reason we wanted to bring in someone the quality of Fenton is he will add to us physically with his experience of being in a full-time environment.

“He is here to get his head down, concentrate on his rugby and kick on. He is familiar with club and group and knows what it means to play for Bradford and I look forward to working with him.”

The prop will be available for selection for this weekend’s game against Featherstone Rovers.
