Former St Helens star Regan Grace confirms move to new club

Former St Helens winger Regan Grace has signed for Bath

Regan Grace burst onto the scene in Super League, scoring 88 tries in 142 for St Helens, breaking into their side in 2016. During his time at Saints, Grace won three Grand Finals and the 2021 Challenge Cup.

However, Grace has suffered a torrid time since 2022. In July that year, French Rugby Union side Racing 92 announced the signing of Grace for the 2023 season. But Grace suffered a cruel injury blow before he joined. He ruptured his Achilles tendon in a Super League game against Salford Red Devils.

He never made an appearance for the French side following a recurrence of the injury. He then joined Premiership side Bath in February in a rehab contract and has been working on his fitness since.

Former St Helens man secures future

Now, Grace has confirmed his future, by signing a contract with Bath until the end of the 2024/25 season. He played in friendly matches against Gloucester and Leinster. He impressed the Bath hierarchy sufficiently to earn a new contract.

Grace reportedly turned down a return to Super League in recent weeks. Bath’s Premiership rivals, Gloucester, were also reportedly keen to capture the Welsh flyer. Gloucester needed a winger, following Louis Rees-Zammit’s move to the NFL, but missed out on Grace.

If Grace can recapture his best form, Wales Rugby Union coach Warren Gatland will undoubtedly by keeping a close eye on him.

A clear point of difference

Speaking in a club press release, Bath’s Head of Rugby, Johann van Graan, spoke of how Grace has impressed him.

“Regan has impressed both on and off the pitch over the last few months.

He has a clear point of difference in his play and that will be very valuable for our team. It’s great to have Regan on board.”

Grace is not the only Bath player with a link to Rugby League. The Somerset club recently announced the signing of League legend, Martin Offiah’s son, Tyler Offiah. Bath beat off interest from Wigan Warriors to secure Offiah’s signature.
