Three teams who could sign Konrad Hurrell for 2025

Konrad Hurrell

May 1st is the all-important date in the Super League season as it marks the point at which clubs can officially begin negotiations with off-contract players. As such there’s expected to be a flurry of signings announced with some major names going off contract at the end of the year, one of those being Konrad Hurrell.

The St Helens centre is off contract at the end of the season but the club do have an option to extend his contract for a further year and retain his services for 2025.

It’s unclear if the Red Vee aim to do that which leaves the status of the enigmatic centre uncertain, however, there’d surely be plenty of suitors for him.

Konrad Hurrell will be 33 by the start of next year but is still an incredibly impactful player that several Super League sides should be enquiring about.

Hurrell is among over 100 players off contract at the end of the season with the full list available here.

Which Super League club will sign Konrad Hurrell for 2025?

Catalans Dragons

The Dragons are set to lose a number of players next year and their three-quarter line looks set to need a complete rebuild with starting wingers Tom Johnstone and Tom Davies reportedly exiting, whilst fellow winger Fouad Yaha and centres Matt Ikuvalu and Matthieu Lagueree are also among those off-contract.

Another reason why Konrad Hurrell could be a target for Steve McNamara would be that signing the Tongan would see him unite with Tommy Makinson, the St Helens winger having reportedly signed a deal to move to Perpignan.

Landing that combination would create a lethal right edge that already has a pre-existing relationship meaning it could be a savvy move. Moreover, several of the off-contract players for Catalans are overseas players meaning the club is likely to have quota spots available for Hurrell.

Huddersfield Giants

The Giants lost to Konrad Hurrell and St Helens on Thursday night with Jonny Lomax’s last-minute drop goal being the decider in a brutal loss for Huddersfield. The scoring in that game was opened by former Saint Kevin Naiqama, however, the centre is one of those off contract at the end of the season.

More concerning is that fellow centre and breakout player of the season so far, Esan Marsters, is also off contract meaning that Huddersfield could be set to lose both of their starting centres for 2025. Given how pivotal both those men have been this season, it’s assumed that Ian Watson will be advocating for the club to re-sign them but if that’s not possible then Hurrell would be a nice alternative.

Leigh Leopards

Could Konrad Hurrell go to Leigh Leopards with Zak Hardaker off contract

Leigh have had difficulties in recruiting this season with owner Derek Beaumont admitting that the salary cap is restricting the club, whilst they’ve also been unable to land NRL target David Armstrong on account of the fact the club are at full quota.

That might not be a problem next year with four of the Leopards’ 20 off-contract players hailing from overseas. One of those is centre Ricky Leutele whilst another centre in Zak Hardaker is also available for other clubs to swoop in for.

Therefore it could be prudent for Leigh and Beaumont to make the move for Hurrell who seems a ready-made fit for the personality of the club; bold, brash and fun. Derek Beaumont and Konrad Hurrell seems like a combo that just makes sense.
