Leigh Leopards have suffered a challenging start to the season. A string of injuries has hampered their progress. Last year’s Challenge Cup winners have managed just two wins from their opening eight games.
However, an emphatic win over Catalans Dragons suggests they have turned a corner. Coach Adriam Lam has been an instrumental part in their recent success. The ex-Wigan Warriors coach took over the club in the Championship. He has led them through a period of unprecedented success.
Naturally, Lam’s success has not gone unnoticed. Lam is reportedly an option to take over at South Sydney Rabbitohs. This follows the news that Jason Demetriou has left his role as head coach at Souths.
Leigh Leopards boss open to right opportunity
Lam has transformed Leigh in his two and a half years in charge. Speaking earlier today, he confirmed he is only halfway through a five-year plan at Leigh. He did state, however, that he would always consider opportunities as they came along.
“Where we’ve taken it to over the last two-and-a-half years has been incredible, and I’ve enjoyed every moment of it.
“There is a five-year plan that we have here at the club, and that’s on track for where it needs to be, so my focus is solely here.
“If something comes up from that way, as any normal person would do, you look at what the opportunity is and then make decisions moving forward from there.”
However, Law went on to state that his heart is in Leigh, and he hopes the journey is able to continue.
“But I know that my heart is here at the moment, it’s been an amazing journey so far and long may that continue.”
“It’s good to be acknowledged”
For Lam, the link to an NRL job is a deserved recognition for his work with the Leopards.
“I think it’s nice to be thought about over there with all the hard work that we’ve done here, it’s good to be acknowledged, and I think I’ve done my apprenticeship!”
Lam is keen for his future to be settled soon. Discussions over a new contract with Leigh are ongoing. Lam hopes they will be resolved within the next few weeks.
“For me, I’m sure things (regarding contract talks with Leigh) will happen and get finalised over the next couple of weeks.”
