Catalans Dragons forward signs two-year deal with Super League side

Catalans Dragons captain Benjamin Garcia has today signed a two-year contract with the Super League club.

The France International has put pen to paper on a contract extension that will secure his future at the Gilbert Brutus Stadium until the end of the 2026 season.

Benjamin Garcia, who previously played for Brisbane Broncos’ NYC side, arrived at the club in 2013. He returned in Australia in 2016, signing at Penrith, but came back to the Dragons few months later and quickly became a key player in the Dragons squad.

Appointed captain in 2021, he helped the club to reach the Super League Grand Final in 2021 and 2023.

A key player in Steve McNamara’s squad, Benjamin Garcia reached the symbolic milestone of making 200 Super League appearances for the club at the end of last season since his debut in 2013.

He has scored 36 tries in 226 games for Catalans Dragons and had led them out in two Grand Finals in 2021 and 2023.

He also lifted the League Leaders’ Shield in 2021 after Catalans’ best ever season. They are hoping to replicate the form of 2021 and 2023 in 2024 as they hope to finally lift the Super League trophy in 2024 and it will be Garcia’s role to lift the silverware aloft should they achieve what they have set out to do in 2024 after some close calls in the last three years.

Super League star reflects on decision

.

Speaking to the club’s website, Benjamin Garcia said of the decision to extend his stay: “I’m very happy to extend my contract with the Dragons. I still have the same motivation and the same ambition to win a title with this club. There were a lot of changes during the off-season, but the group is still going strong together. Steve McNamara has also extended his contract, so there’s a clear project around him and Neil McIlroy and I want to be part of it.”

Catalans Dragons head coach Steve McNamara said: “Ben continues to drive this team forward with his leadership both on and off the field. His personal performances over my time here have been exceptional and we are delighted he has agreed a new deal.”
