Featherstone Rovers issue unhappy statement after shock Ben Reynolds exit

Hull KR Ben Reynolds

In quite a surprise, Featherstone Rovers agreed to the departure of former Leigh Leopards star Ben Reynolds as he joins Hull KR for the 2024 Super League season.

Reynolds left Leigh Leopards as a Challenge Cup Final winner oddly against Hull KR last year. He joined home town club Featherstone Rovers in what was a major coup and a heart felt transfer it seemed.

However, Reynolds wasn’t adjusting to being part time at Featherstone very well and the halfback wanted a return to Super League and has now secured it joining Hull KR on a two year deal as the back up to Mikey Lewis and Tyrone May the need for which was underlined by the fact Lewis picked up a minor back injury in their win against Leeds Rhinos in Round Two of the Betfred Super League.

Featherstone Rovers don’t seem too happy with having to allow the transfer doing so reluctantly.

The Rovers have issued the following statement: “The Club can confirm that following a transfer request made by Ben Reynolds to leave to join Super League Club Hull KR, the Club has reluctantly accepted his departure.

“Ben has struggled to make the transition from a full time Super League environment to part time at Featherstone and in recent weeks has been keen to step back into a Super League environment. Whilst the Club has resisted previous approaches, we have felt that it is everyone’s best interests that we do not stand in his way and this move takes place.

“Hull KR will pay a significant transfer fee for this move to take place and we will continue to work positively with our Dual Registration partner Club Hull KR during the forthcoming season. We will continue to actively monitor the recruitment market to identify appropriate replacements.

“We wish Ben all the best in his future endeavours.”
