Brian Carney and Jon Wilkin address rumours of Bevan French move away from Wigan Warriors

If there is one name that is on everyone’s lips in the rugby league world at the minute it is Bevan French.

The Wigan Warriors maestro enjoyed yet another stellar performance in Wigan’s demolition of the Salford Red Devils on Friday night, scoring a hat-trick and being destructive down the Red Devils’ right all night.

However, French has been linked with a move to Hull FC for 2023 and beyond – a move that perhaps makes sense given Jake Connor’s persistent link to the NRL.

And, for the Sky Sports pundits of Brian Carney, Jon Wilkin and Dan Sarginson, it makes sense.

“There are very strong rumours he will be a Hull FC player in 2023,” Carney said.

“You’ve got to put yourself in Frenchy’s position, he probably doesn’t want to pay fullback and it was he same with Zak Hardaker and they got rid of him,” Dan Sarginson stated.

Wilkin believes that with the salary cap in Super League, Wigan’s hands could be tied behind their backs in order to provide for two world-class fullbacks.

“He is the player Hull FC need, scoring tries from distance,” Wilkin professed.

“Having Field and French together is an embarrassment of riches but when you talk about blend and salary cap you feel like something has got to give.”
