RL Rumours: Man of Steel linked with exit, Leigh Leopards push for new deal for star player and St Helens man returning to NRL

Below is a round-up of all the biggest rumours and gossip from the world of rugby league over the past week.

Brodie Croft returning home?

Back in February, Brodie Croft signed a new contract to keep him at the AJ Bell until 2030, however it looks like he could be leaving earlier than expected. According to reports in Australia, the 2022 Super League Man of Steel could be on his way back to Australia, with Wests Tigers looking at bringing him back as a replacement for Luke Brookes.

Lachlan Lam to stay in Leigh?

Much has been made of the impact Lachlan Lam has had on the Leigh team this season. He has helped guide the Leopards to second place in the table, and showed he is arguably the best halfback in the competition. His form has seen him linked with a return to the NRL, however Leigh Leopards head coach Adrian Lam has confirmed talks of a new deal for the star are taking place.

Joey Lussick touted for NRL move

St Helens hooker Joey Lussick is a target for NRL side Parramatta Eels, according to reports in Australia. The Eels are struggling in that department, as former Hull KR man Josh Hodgson struggles with injuries, and the club are reportedly looking to bring back their former man Lussick for the remainder of the season.

Wire seek immediate transfer

From one Lachlan to another, in the form of new Warrington signing Lachlan Fitzgibbon. Warrington are currently short in the pack, following the departures of both Josh McGuire and Thomas Mikaele, however according to reports in Australia they have moved to bring in new signing Fitzgibbon immediately. The powerful Newcastle Knights forward is scheduled to arrive in 2024, but an early move would greatly boost Warrington’s hopes of securing a playoff berth.

NRL duo set for Super League moves

With all the talk of players departing for the NRL, players coming the other way may get overlooked. Warrington have already signed Lachlan Fitzgibbon ahead of next season, Hull KR have signed Brad Schneider from Canberra and Wigan Warriors have drawn Kruise Leeming back to Super League from the Gold Coast Titans. Now two more NRL players are linked with moves to Super League clubs. Serious About Rugby League understands that Richie Kennar and James Roumanos are on their way to Super League, with Warrington and Salford leading the charge for their signatures.

Leeds Rhinos retaining key players

Leeds Rhinos have already retained several key players ahead of the 2024 campaign. Jarrod O’Connor, Sam Lisone, Nene Macdonald and Justin Sangare have all agreed new deals with the club, however Rohan Smith has confirmed the club are “working through a bunch of extra extensions”.

Castleford Tigers linked with PNG stars

Recruitment has been at the focal point for much of the Castleford Tigers fans frustrations this season. The club have already brought in Jordan Johnstone, however they could be about to bring in more reinforcements. Speaking to media last week, Andy Last confirmed the club were interested in PNG stars Nixon Putt and Sylvester Namo.
