Liam Moore will be given the reins for Saturday’s Super League Grand Final as Catalans Dragons take on St Helens, with James Child given the video refereeing role.
Robert Hicks will take charge of Toulouse Olympique’s home final against Featherstone Rovers with Chris Kendall taking the video refereeing spot.
However, a RFL spokesman – when approached by Serious About Rugby League – revealed why Ben Thaler has been absent in the play-offs.
The statement simply read: “Ben Thaler has been unavailable for refereeing appointments in recent weeks due to illness.”
