Michael Maguire names star studded squad as Leeds Rhinos signing and St Helens man could come into Ireland side for Headingley clash

Ireland need a miracle if they want to make the quarter-finals of the Rugby league World.

A disappointing defeat to Lebanon last week left Lebanon a win away from the last eight assuming Ireland lose to the Kiwis, who went into the tournament as the world’s number one ranked side.

New Zealand call upon some of their big hitters this week as Michael Maguire names a 19-man squad including players who were rested last week such as Joey Manu and Jahrome Hughes.

Ireland could also call upon Leeds Rhinos signing James McDonnell after he missed last week’s defeat. He will be at his new home alongside teammates Richie Myler and James Bentley.

Wigan Warriors’ Toby King is in the squad alongside his brother Hull KR’s George King. However, King’s future Wigan teammate Liam Byrne misses out through suspension Jaimin Jollife is named despite initially also being banned.

Huddersfield Giants’ winger Innes Senior will feature alongside brother Louis as Leigh Leopards’ Ed Chamberlain and former Warrington Wolves man Rob Mulhern will feature.

St Helens’ Dan Norman could get some game time too.
