“Everything is looking up” – Wakefield Trinity star backing Mark Applegarth

Wakefield Trinity have been written off by the bookmakers at least but their breakout star from 2022 believes the side have a real shot at making the playoffs and has called for consistency as they attempt that playoff push.

Trinity placed 10th in 2022, largely thanks to an impressive end to the season that saw them register five wins from their remaining seven, and paired with their two pre-season victories so far they seem like a side on the up.

That hasn’t discounted bookmakers from pricing them as rank outsiders for the league title and also favourites for relegation but Mark Applegarth’s men can defy the odds according to Lewis Murphy.

The youngster recorded 17 tries last season and has told the Sportsman Rugby League Youtube channel that he expects more this year, referencing his connection with new coach Applegarth from the academy.

“I’ve worked with Mark before from the academy and I see how he’s working and it’s definitely going well.

“Every team it’s just who can do it consistently and play well and we’ll see how we start and end up. Everything’s looking up, the stadium looks well so we just need a good season now really.

“I’m not one for personal goals or numbers but I try take every game by game and play well.”
