Betfred League 1 fixture postponed “despite extensive efforts”

Tomorrow’s Betfred League 1 clash between London Skolars and Keighley Cougars has been cancelled.

This is due to there being insufficient medical cover scheduled to be at the game in line with the operational rules.

This is despite what’s referred to as “extensive efforts” from the home side the London Skolars to find someone able to fill the void.

The matter is set fir “further consideration” from the RFL.

This all comes in a statement from the governing body which reads: “Tomorrow’s (Saturday 9 July) Betfred League One fixture between London Skolars and Keighley Cougars has been cancelled. Despite extensive efforts, Skolars are unable to provide appropriate medical cover (i.e. a doctor) in line with the game’s Operational Rules.

“The matter will now be referred to RFL Compliance for further consideration.”

Keighley currently sit top of the league unbeaten with 12 wins from 12 whilst the Skolars are struggling in ninth spot with just three wins chased by bottom clubs West Wales Raiders and the newest club on the block Cornwall RLFC.

This news is a blow and certainly disappointing for fans of the division.

It’s not ideal for leaders Keighley who would have wanted to maintain their momentum and keep pulling away from second place Swinton Lions.
