Super League side confirm dual reg deal with ambitious Oldham RLFC

Super League side Salford Red Devils have revealed that they will be entering a dual registration deal with League One side Oldham RLFC.

The dual registration deal with be beneficial to both sides with both teams being two of the most exciting in their respective divisions, as already seen early on in this campaign.

Paul Rowley’s Red Devils have shocked much of Super League by winning three of their opening five fixtures, their most recent loss coming during a game where they pushed Wigan Warriors all the way.

Salford had lost plenty of talent in the off-season with Leeds Rhinos signing both Brodie Croft and Andy Ackers but Marc Sneyd seems to have taken his game to another level to counter that, the ex-Hull FC man currently leading the Man of Steel charts on the back of his performances.

As for Oldham, the Roughyeds kicked off their League One campaign with a huge win at the weekend as they beat Workington 48-10 on the road.

Oldham have created a very strong side for League One which is headed up by Sean Long as head coach but also features former Super League talent like Jordan Turner, Jamie Ellis and Joe Wardle to name a few.

Both teams have now confirmed the new partnership that could see Salford’s young players head out to Oldham to earn some invaluable experience.

Salford Red Devils released their statement with great praise for their new dual registration partners, touting the Roughyeds for a successful season.

Their statement read: “We are thrilled to announce a dual registration agreement with Betfred League One side, Oldham RLFC.

“This partnership will allow both clubs to send players for valuable playing opportunities in a competitive environment.

“The Roughyeds have started 2024 with a convincing 10-48 victory at Workington Town and will be looking for a successful season under the guidance of Head Coach, Sean Long.”

Paul Rowley added: “It is great to get an on-field partnership sorted with Oldham.

“I personally have a very good relationship with both Mike Ford and Sean Long, so communication will be comfortable and positive.

“Oldham’s positivity, drive and ambition is something that is a privilege to be involved with and I am looking forward to both clubs benefiting from this connection.”

Meanwhile, Sean Long offered his thoughts, explaining: “We can tap into some of their players when we are struggling and vice versa.

“If we need our lads to play some game time in the reserves, like Kieran has, they can go out and get some minutes under their belt.

“It’s good for our players learning their craft, but also if they have any players returning to action they can come to us.

“Neither side will be forced to take players, we will work together to form a good partnership with Paul Rowley and Salford.”
