Adrian Lam highlights unfair element in Super League

Leigh Leopards are headed to Wembley to take on Hull KR after they defeated Leeds Rhinos 13-6 in their final game before the Challenge Cup Final.

It wasn’t the most exciting game from the two as neither side offered each other an inch.

At the break Leeds led 6-4 after a try from Jarrod O’Connor as the hooker burrowed over.

In the second half a try for Tom Amone and a penalty and a drop goal from Ben Reynolds gave Leigh the win.

Leeds nearly scored a vital try though as O’Connor burrowed over this time the video referee Liam Moore determined that he lost the ball.

The try had been sent up as a try to the video official and thus Adrian Lam was relieved the game was on TV.

“Yeah, I’m grateful for that because had it not been a TV game, I don’t know what the outcome would have been. If that wasn’t televised, it would have been awarded and it would have been a completely different scenario,” he said on YouTube.

“Certainly no try. It was the right decision in the end, no try, but that’s how the fine lines of having the televised game run to be honest.

“I thought we defended well enough, I thought we worked hard to get that luck to be honest, you know, and if the two tries had it been came from dummy half-dive overs then we’d have had a pretty good day considering they didn’t really break us down with shape.

“Without their two key players that was always going to be the case, so we addressed that situation over and over during the week, but we slipped up on it in the game. But having said that, again, just a bit of luck go our way, which is exactly what we needed.”

Crucially O’Connor’s opposite number Edwin Ipape scored a similar try in the first half.

On the hooker, Lam had this to say:

“Yeah, he missed the week before as well. So, you know, I played him a little bit more time that one or two today, just so that he could get the load up for next week.

“He’s a massive part of our team and where he’s going to get to in the next year or two is potentially world class.

“He’s working hard every week, he’s also getting smarter as a player and he’s got leadership in him too which is fantastic so he’ll be a big part of our team next week.”
