Wigan Warriors boss Matty Peet to hand debut to new signing in Toulouse clash as he gives Bevan French update

Wigan Warriors travel to Toulouse Olympique on Saturday night looking to extend their winning run to four games.

The Lancashire club have been one of the major bright sparks in the 2022 Super League season so far, winning all three of their fixtures with an emphatic victory over Leeds Rhinos the pick of the bunch in round one.

And, head coach Matty Peet has the luxury of squad rotation ahead of this weekend’s fixture in the south of France, with one debutant expected to line up.

“Abbas Miski will play on Saturday against Toulouse, he’s in line for his debut,” Peet said in his pre-match conference.

“He deserves it – he’s been flawless since he came to the club.

“He’s only missed out previously because the lads in front of him have credit in the bank.”

One star who will sit out this weekend’s game is Bevan French – though he will travel with the squad.

After returning to Wigan following extended leave in Australia, the livewire fullback is currently getting back up to full fitness with an eye to taking to the field in a Challenge Cup fixture.

“Bevan french will go with us on the trip, he’s not even close to getting in at the moment,” Peet continued.

“We have timeframes, it’s looking like one of the Challenge Cup games potentially.

“There are constant markers that he would need to tick off – it’s very live, but he’s not at training with the team yet, he’s building up his running volume and strength.

“He’s in all our meetings, though, and I’m delighted to take him to France.”
