Watch: Marc Sneyd’s match winning moment

Salford Red Devils and Wakefield Trinity served up a golden point thriller.

The Red Devils edged the contest though Mark Applegarth’s side played valiantly throughout.

However, as you’d expect, it was the boot of Marc Sneyd that settled matters.

As you might expect from the free scoring Salford Red Devils it did not take long for them to notch the first try of the game.

With Tim Lafai out of the side, his replacement Matthew Costello after Brodie Croft and Ryan Brierley enticed their defence prior to feeding Costello for the opener which was converted by Marc Sneyd.

Shortly after, Wakefield ended their run of over 250 minutes without a try with a brilliant Jorge Taufua break enabling Corey Hall to get his way over to level matters at 6-all.

Wakefield then took the lead for the first time since their game against Catalans Dragons with Reece Lyne rising to take the ball and score with Mason Lino missing the conversion.

Concerningly Andy Ackers was forced off with an injury but after this change Chris Atkin forcing his way over to allow Sneyd to give the Red Devils the lead at the break at 12-10.

In the second half of the game Andy Ackers returned to the field but it was a scrappy second stanza.

Rhys Williams perhaps should have extended the lead after a lovely scrum move but knocked on.

It was a chance they would rue when Wakefield levelled matters in the 69th minute with a Mason Lino penalty.

With seven to go, Salford had a chance 20 metres out and normally you might have backed them to score but of course Marc Sneyd is one of the most trusted drop goal takers in Super League and nailed it to make it 13-12.

That could have been the end of things but this Wakefield side have character and levelled matters with a drop goal from Mason Lino.

The drop goal efforts kept coming but this time Marc Sneyd was unsuccessful and it was the same with Mason Lino as the 80 minute mark creeped closer and thus the game edged into golden point.

In extra time a forward pass on halfway by Wakefield gave Salford the chance they needed and this time Sneyd did not miss and won the game with a drop goal.
