Warrington prop loaned to Championship newboys

Warrington Wolves prop Samy Kibula will spend the 2021 season at Newcastle Thunder, after agreeing a season-long loan.

A 21-year-old graduate of Wigan Warriors youth system where he was a two-time Academy Grand Finalist winner Kibula made his Super League debut with the Cherry and Whites against Huddersfield in 2018 aged 19.

Moving to the Wolves for 2020, Kibula made two appearances for Steve Price’s side following the season’s restart.

Looking ahead to his move to the north east, Kibula said “Thunder have some exciting aims and after speaking to the coaches, it’s something I want to be a part of.

“As a player, I like to both carry and tackle hard as well as expressing myself with the ball. I’ve learnt a lot from some great players so far, but now I want to play regular minutes.

“I’ve got good experience of Championship rugby and I hope that can be useful to the club and that we can both grow and do the best we can.”

Director of rugby Denis Betts added: “Samy is a young and enthusiastic player with Super League and Championship experience and a real desire to perform.

“He is very quick for such a big man and has great hands and skills. He wants to be a Super League player and we want him to perform to that level so that we can both achieve our goals and develop together.”
