Wakefield’s woes and Luke Gale’s absence both continue in France

When you’re winless and struggling for points the last thing you need is a trip to Perpignan.

Notoriously one of the hardest places in Super League to go, Catalans Dragons very rarely lose on their home turf and Wakefield no doubt went across the channel feeling that the game would be a tough one to claim their first two points of the season.

In a boost for the West Yorkshire side Max Jowitt was back in the mix after missing the last 12 games since Wakefield lost to Catalans at home in Round One.

That game saw Trinity score four tries – the only time they’ve done so this season.

Interestingly, Trinity were again without new signing Luke Gale after it seemed he was finally set to debut.

Wakefield held on for the first quarter of the match but after 20 minutes as Tyrone May broke from an offload from Arthur Romano and Tom Johnstone was there to haunt his former club.

After 22 minutes without a try, two came in five minutes as Romano continued to impress setting Cesar Rouge away for Catalans’ second.

By halftime it was 18-0 as Tyrone May teed up Mike McMeeken for the try.

At the start of the second half, Wakefield gave themselves hope with a Liam Kay try but that hope was snuffed out by a second for Tom Johnstone.

Catalans wrapped a comfortable win in the end as Tanguy Zenon created a try for Arthur Mourgue before scoring himself.
