Leeds Rhinos: Five teenagers named in depleted squad to face Hull FC

Leeds Rhinos

Leeds Rhinos’ form has fallen off a cliff in recent weeks, culminating in a chastening Super League defeat against Huddersfield Giants.

During the game, the Rhinos lost backs Harry Newman and David Fusitu’a to injury, which has thrown their side into chaos. Star winger, Ash Handley, injured a rib against Warrington Wolves and is not yet fit. Second rowers, James Bentley, and Morgan Gannon are both sidelined indefinitely with head injuries.

As a result, Leeds have named a severely depleted squad for their clash against strugglers, Hull FC, on Sunday.

The Rhinos have named five teenagers in their 21-man squad for the game against Hull FC, two of whom could make their debuts for the club. 19-year-old Jack Sinfield is a relative veteran in comparison to the other teenagers, with 11 Super League appearances.

Alfie Edgell impressed when making his debut in Leeds’ defeat away at Hull KR, and also appeared from the bench against St Helens. Ned McCormack made his debut against Warrington and is in line to make his second appearance for the club.

Leeds’ two potential debutants are Riley Lumb and Ben Littlewood. Littlewood, a second rower, will wear the number 32 shirt and joined the Rhinos Academy from Lock Lane.

Lumb, given the number 33 shirt, has yet to feature for the Rhinos. However, he did play on dual-registration for the Halifax Panthers last weekend. Lumb won the sponsors’ man of the match in a heavy defeat, receiving for his performance from Halifax Head Coach, Liam Finn.

Leeds received some better news, with Tom Holroyd available to boost Rhinos’ forward pack. Holroyd missed the game against Huddersfield, after receiving a head knock in the Lioners’ defeat against Warrington.

He failed his HIA, meaning that he had to pass the return-to-play protocols. However, Holroyd is fit to return in the game against Hull.
