Toulouse Olympique forward with impressive stats leaves club

Toulouse’s focus right now is on a return to Super League.

That’s not to say 2022 has been a terrible season for the French side even though they succumbed to relegation. They beat both Grand Finalists at home and made a real fight of survival especially mid-season.

Now, however, it’s about learning lessons and preparing for another crack at it in 2024 so long as though they can earn promotion back to the top tier next year.

That’s exactly what they outlined in a superb, at times quite comical, statement released this morning by the French side.

That wasn’t the only thing the club has released today with them revealing the news that forward Maxime Puech will be leaving after eight seasons with the club, 131 appearances 17 of which came this year.

A man who made his way through the Elite One Championship, he has had a superb season and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a Super League club or a high ranking Championship side snap him up.

These are the stats he boasted in 2022:

– 17 games played
– 154 balls carried
– 901 meters travelled with ball
– 394 tackles

This means he averaged around six metres per carry which is not back for a forward as well as 53 metres per game from just under 10 carries per game.

It also means he averages 23 tackles per game – all of which are good numbers for a forward doing it tough against a more often than not beaten pack.

So, he could be a handy signing for any Super League club.
