Three potential destinations for Super League star set to leave current club

There is plenty of talk about where certain Super League stars could end up in 2024 as they enter the last few months of their contract.

May allows clubs to negotiate deals with off contract stars from rival clubs.

This week Rugby League Live revealed the RFL’s official off contract list in which it confirmed star Matt Whitley would be leaving Catalans Dragons.

So here are three potential destinations for the second-row.

Wigan Warriors
Wigan are set to lose Kai Pearce-Paul at the end of the year as he heads to Newcastle Knights in the NRL alongside Will Pryce. Liam Farrell and Willie Isa are at the end of their careers so bringing in a quality backrow like Whitley would be ideal.

Huddersfield Giants
Meanwhile, there are questions over Chris McQueen’s future at Huddersfield. Whitley would be a brilliant replacement for McQueen. He, Harvey Livett and Josh Jones would be a great selection.

St Helens
St Helens also have backrowers off contract with talk that Sione Mata’utia and Curtis Sironen could both return to the NRL. Thus, bringing Whitley to the club would be a very smart signing. He and Joe Batchelor would be a dynamic pair. Like Batchelor, going to Saints could be Whitley’s way to the England squad finally after he has been overlooked for some time.
