Super League star’s refreshingly honest take on relegation battle

Former Leeds Rhinos second-row Alex Mellor is getting ready to take on his former club this weekend at the Magic Weekend in what he described as “a must win” game for the Castleford Tigers.

Cas have won just two games all season and are in a real relegation scrap but can add to their buffer with a win over Leeds on Saturday.

Speaking on The Sportsman YouTube channel, Mellor has been refreshingly honest about the occasion that awaits him and his side as well as the relegation battle as a whole:

“Any game against Leeds is always a big game, and when you bring it up to Newcastle and you play at this wonderful stadium it makes the occasion even more special.

“It’s always an important two points against Leeds, but with the way our season is going it becomes must win territory. We need to repay the fans a little bit and hopefully get our season kick-started.

“It’s a little bit of a change. It’s a different stadium; it’s a wonderful event so it would be the perfect time for us to kick-start it.

“We spoke about it through the week that we want to restart our season from here, forget everything that’s gone on, really look forward and try and be positive about things rather than looking back and dwelling. This would be the absolute perfect opportunity to get our season launched”.
