Super League star signs deal with NRL giants

NRL

Wakefield Trinity have confirmed the departure of star winger Lewis Murphy to the NRL.

The West Yorkshire club confirmed the news with the following statement:

“Lewis Murphy will join NRL team Sydney Roosters in 2024.

“Lewis will leave the club with our very best wishes and we thank him for his service to Wakefield Trinity.

“Go and smash it, Murph.”

The winger made his name at the club last year as the perfect replacement for Tom Johnstone who headed to Super League rivals Catalans Dragons.

He was a speed merchant who can score tries from all over the field and he has a brilliant finishing ability often turning to acrobatic finishes to defy the odds and score.

He was key to lifting Trinity off the bottom of the table at the mid way stage of last season and to safety even finishing above Warrington Wolves.

He started the season strongly but an acl injury devastated him and the Wakefield fans and is due in part for their struggles to score.

People were concerned that this meant his NRL move would no longer happen but that is clearly not the case.

He will join fellow English winger Dom Young over at the Roosters.

England international Victor Radley is also at the club.

Young’s move coupled with Murphy’s decision sparked talk Daniel Tupou could leave the club to Super League but that seems off the table now.
