Super League side set for big boost ahead of huge game

Super League Champions St Helens are set for a major boost.

They take on league leaders Warrington Wolves on Thursday and could have one of their star players back as Paul Wellens confirmed on Saints TV:

“The only returnee we will have is probably Joe Batchelor. Joe’s trained with the team this afternoon and trained really well but we’ve got to make sure he’s come through the session and recovered well.

“Having Batch back in contention is massive for us, he’s a player we rate so highly and he adds so much to the team.”

Wellens also gave an update on Curtis Sironen: “It’s a slight hamstring strain which we’re hopeful he’ll be back after the international break. It’s really unfortunate to miss a player of Curtis’ calibres considering all the men we’re already missing.”

The Champions are doing it tough in terms of injuries and Paul Wellens has explained why their absentees are so detrimental:

“Like most games there’s a few knocks and bump and bruises, they’ve all trained this afternoon. Obviously Jake with his head knock he’ll miss the week which is really unfortunate for Jake.

“If we’d have handled certain situations a little bit better then we could have given ourselves a chance at winning.

“What we’re missing at the moment is what you’d call our most potent ball-carriers in Alex Walsmley, Siona Mata’tuia and Curtis Sironen and players who can get you on the front foot through carries.”
