Super League boss addresses fans’ concerns about impressive forward

Many Leeds Rhinos fans were left stunned by the inclusion of Sam Walters in the reserves squad yesterday instead of featuring for the first team against Hull FC.

The young forward has impressed when he has played in 2023 including a superb assist against St Helens.

He is also in the last year of his contract and many fans believe he should be playing more to convince him to stay at Headingley.

Two fans took to the comments to describe the decision as “a joke.”

Whilst it is clear some fans are beginning to get worried:

Meanwhile one fan believes something is up whilst another fan said “he’s all but gone.”

It didn’t matter in terms of the result as Leeds impressed against Hull FC winning 34-10 with forwards Tom Holroyd, Mikolaj Oledzki and James McDonnell all scoring.

Sam Lisone also impressed.

But to Walters’ credit he was impressive for the reserves as you would expect.

As Leeds fans get worried that Walters could leave the club, Rohan Smith addressed the situation last night:

“I am not sure who is talking and where that originates from outside our walls. I speak to Sam all the time and he is playing well but he is in a difficult situation. He is a Super League player but he’s not playing and sometimes when your squad is healthy in that position and people are playing well it is sometimes hard to get back in.

“He has played a couple of games and done well so when the opportunity arises for him I will be excited about that.”
