Sky Sports have confirmed they will show nine hours of classic Magic Weekend games, after next month’s two-day event was postponed due to the Covid-19 suspension.
Magic Weekend 2020 was due to take place at Newcastle’s St James’ Park on May 23 and 24 but with most sport out of action for several weeks now, the decision has been made by Super League to push it back to later in the year.
To compensate for the lack of live action, Sky Sports will now show nine hours of classic Magic Weekend fixtures from the past 13 years over those two days, with full coverage of six games supplemented by several 15-minute highlights packages.
Among the games will be the showpiece clash from the inaugural 2007 event at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, where Jordan Tansey’s controversial late try saw Leeds beat Bradford 42-38 on the hooter.
Matches featuring St Helens, Wigan, Hull FC, Hull KR, Warrington Huddersfield and Salford will also be part of the schedule.
The showing will be similar to Good Friday, where Sky Sports aired a series of classic derby matches.
