Sky Sports to only show two Super League games this weekend as Castleford Tigers get nod

Ever since the creation of Super League in 1996, Sky Sports has been the major broadcaster with a good deal often the product of a lot of hard work.

Ahead of this weekend’s Super League fixtures, only two games have been chosen to be covered by Sky with no Thursday game scheduled for some reason.

Castleford Tigers take on Huddersfield Giants on Friday night, with kick off at 8pm on Sky Sports Arena, whilst Catalans Dragons and St Helens will do battle in front of the TV cameras on Saturday evening.

That game will kick off at 5pm (GMT) with local French time at 6pm, but it has raised a question as to why there are only two live games this weekend?

Earlier in the season with Channel 4 in tow, at one point there were four televised games in one weekend.

Hull FC take on Leeds Rhinos on Saturday afternoon with a kick off at 3pm – Sky could well have shown a double-header and given more coverage this weekend especially with the football season finished until August.

Toulouse Olympique take on Hull KR on Saturday night, but with no French TV deal signed from the newly-promoted side, it won’t be shown on television.

There will be two games on Sunday afternoon with Wakefield Trinity hosting Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves taking on Salford Red Devils.
