Sheffield Eagles book semi-final clash with Leigh Centurions

Sheffield Eagles booked their place in the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup semi-finals with a resounding win over Whitehaven at Featherstone’s Millennium Stadium.

They’ll meet Leigh Centurions in the semi-finals at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday 8th May a day after the Challenge Cup semi-finals at Elland Road.

The Eagles made light work of their opponents today as they ensured their date with the Centurions in the semi-finals and led 16-6 at the break.

The star man was former Leeds, Salford and Wakefield man Ben Jones-Bishop who is no stranger to scoring in knockout games including tries in 2011 Challenge Cup Final and the 2012 Grand Final both for Leeds.

He scored a hat-trick today as another former Super League man Kris Welham also got over the tryline for the Eagles. Izaac Farrell had an off day with the boot converting just half of Sheffield’s tries in their 40-6 win. Dion Aiye was the only try scorer for Whitehaven on a disappointing day for the club especially as their last knockout performance was so encouraging against Super League Champions St Helens in the Challenge Cup.

So, Sheffield will travel over to Leigh in the semi-finals with Barrow and Featherstone meeting in the other potentially setting up a massive final between the Championship’s two best teams at the moment: Leigh and Featherstone.
