Sam Tomkins’ surprise play-off prediction

The play-off battle is as interesting as ever.

Right now last year’s Grand Finalists St Helens and Leeds Rhinos find themselves outside the play-off spots whilst Huddersfield Giants and Hull FC can’t be discounted in the race for the top six either.

Teams like Warrington Wolves, who top the table, Hull KR and Leigh Leopards occupy places in the top six at present after missing out last year or in Leigh’s case being in the Championship.

Catalans Dragons look like a side who could be set to make the top six for fourth year in a row and one of their star players in the shape of former England skipper Sam Tomkins has backed Leigh to join them.

He said on Channel 4: “They are really good. I said before a ball was kicked this season that Leigh could be the surprise package. They are a team that has come in. Everyone was talking about their new name, the Leopards, no body was talking about the squad.

“They have a really good squad. When they are firing they score some tries. I think they will be in the play-offs and will upset some people.”

Leigh eased passed Huddersfield Giants on Friday night with Ash Golding saying on Channel 4: “They took us apart.”
