Salford Red Devils vs Warrington Wolves: Team news, match preview and score prediction

Salford have already sewn up their place in the play-offs for 2022, something most Warrington fans expected from their side as a bare minimum this year.

Instead the Wolves are consigned to an 11th place finish and will be playing for nothing but pride at the AJ Bell Stadium on Saturday no doubt determined to build momentum ahead of 2023.

As for Salford, they’ll also be looking to generate momentum but for the play-offs next week.

Team News

Despite the fact momentum would be key for the play-offs, what’s more important is fitness which is the priority of Paul Rowley who has rested many of his side and could give six debuts to reserve stars. James Greenwood is back after long term injury.

Warrington meanwhile could give debuts to youngsters Jack Derbyshire and Tom Whitehead whilst youngsters Leon Hayes, Adam Holroyd and Luke Thomas keep their places in the squad too. Stefan Ratchford and Rob Mulhern are absent through injuries.

Match Preview – Key Battles:

Sitaleki Akauola vs Tom Mikaele: A former Warrington prop is one of the few first teamers in Salford’s squad so it’ll be his job to lead the way but he’ll be against one of the Wolves’ newest props in the explosive Tom Mikaele in an intriguing battles.

James Greenwood vs Matty Nicholson: Matty Nicholson has made a real impression since joining Warrington and he’ll be hoping to continue you that here. He’ll be up against the returning James Greenwood who will be wanting to make an impression to get himself into Salford’s strongest side ahead of the play-offs.

Where the game will be won and lost:

Warrington’s freedom with nothing to play for has made them more of a threat in recent weeks pushing sides in the top seven incredibly hard. Against a Salford side resting a fair few players could leave the door open for Warrington to end the season with a win.
