“Zero signs of improvement” – Sam Tomkins piles into Hull FC

Sky Sports pundits, Sam Tomkins and Jon Wilkin have offered a damning assessment of Hull FC ahead of this weekend’s crucial clash with Leeds Rhinos.

Rudderless Hull FC have struggled so far this season and are currently without a head coach. FC are reportedly interested in appointing Lee Briers or Brian McDermott. However, they remain without a permanent Head Coach for this weekend’s game against Leeds.

The Black and Whites were unsuccessful in their approach for Salford Head Coach, Paul Rowley and now, Tomkins and Wilkin have written off the Airlie Birds, who have shipped more than 50 points four times this season.

No signs of improvement for Hull FC

Speaking on Sky Sports, Tomkins and Wilkin offered a damning assessment of Hull’s prospects for the remainder of the season with Tomkins expecting Leeds to run out as comfortable winners at the weekend.

Tomkins stated: “I think Leeds will respond, for Hull FC there’s no sign of them getting any better. Zero sign.

“I’m just not seeing anything positive. I’ve not seen anything positive all year.

“On top of that, they’ve lost the coach. They’ve brought Richie Myler in, and they’ve not got a new coach yet. I just can’t see how it gets any better for the Hull FC.”

He concluded by predicting a heavy Leeds victory, Tomkins: “All they have got is hope. Leeds win by 40.”

Putting faith in youth

Wilkin spoke earlier in the week about his ideal candidate for the Hull job. He believes that Justin Holbrook has the right qualities to turn FC’s season around.

The Black and Whites are short on numbers, particularly at half-back. Experienced half-back, Jake Trueman, is on the long-term casualty list whilst marquee summer signing, Nu Brown, left the club recently to return to Australia. As a result, interim head coach, Simon Grix, is having to rely on youth to try and turn his side’s performances around.

According to Wilkin, those players are having to learn on the job.

“It’s a young Hull FC side with a lot of young players. There’s Jack Charles in the halves who is doing a lot of learning. Good luck to them.”

Leeds Rhinos come into Sunday’s game in a poor run of form. They are also short on numbers, having learned that several key players face extended lay-offs. Most notable is the injury to winger David Fusitu’a, which will keep him out of the team for two months.
