Salford Red Devils confirm 2022 squad numbers including a new look spine

Next year is the dawn of a new era for Salford Red Devils. With an exciting new coach in charge in the shape of Paul Rowley and star signings coming in including Marc Sneyd and Brodie Croft, the fans have every reason to be excited.

It’ll take some going topping the recent success enjoyed by the club. In 2019, they finished third and played in a first Grand Final before playing in the Challenge Cup Final a year later in 2020. Granted 2021 didn’t yield similar success but with the quality available in their squad for next season they should have high hopes.

Those hopes have been consolidated today by the unveiling of their 2022 squad numbers which serve to show the quality and depth in Rowley’s squad going into the new season.

The most notable decisions made regarding squad numbers see a completely new spine awarded the one, six and seven jerseys for next season. Ryan Brierley, who reunites with Rowley having played his best rugby under him at Leigh, has been awarded the number one shirt with former holder Morgan Escare has moved to the 25 shirt.

Former World Club Challenge winner Brodie Croft has been awarded the number six jersey having joined with lofty expectations from Brisbane. Speaking of high expectations, he’ll be joined in the halves by Marc Sneyd who returns to the club after eight years away to take on the number seven shirt.

Super League’s top scorer last season Ken Sio will wear two whilst former Super League Champion Joe Burgess will wear five. Kallum Watkins keeps his number three shirt despite an injury hit season whilst new signing Tim Lafai takes the four shirt.

Speaking of new signings, Sitaleki Akauola takes the eight shirt, Shane Wright is awarded the number 11, King Vuniyayawa will wear 15 whilst Amir Bourouh and Deon Cross will wear 27 and 28 respectively.

Chris Atkin keeps the 18 shirt whilst Dan Sarginson will again wear 23. Challenge Cup Final try scorer Rhys Williams persists with the number 22.

Harvey Livett has enjoyed a promotion to the number 17 shirt whilst Ryan Lannon has moved to 16 having vacated the number 11 shirt.
