Rugby league and football clubs set for sensational stadium swap

Salford’s football and rugby clubs are discussing whether to swap stadiums, the local council has revealed.

Rugby union side Sale Sharks are said to be interested in buying the AJ Bell Stadium which league side Salford Red Devils currently shares with them.

The Red Devils have also been interested in sharing with Salford City FC and met with owner and former Manchester United star Gary Neville to discuss such a move to Moor Lane.

It’s a difficult time for Salford, with their rental agreement ending in 2023 at the AJ Bell and chief executive Paul King hankering after such a move to the football venue.

A “three-club discussion” is still ongoing according to Salford City Council, with an attempt to find a solution which is acceptable to all interested parties.

Sale moved to Salford’s AJ Bell Stadium in 2012, but the Sharks have been desiring a move to return home to Sale, but that wasn’t financially viable.

And, now they have set their sights on the shared ground.
