Rohan Smith makes big halfback decision

Super League returns to Headingley on tonight and sees Salford Red Devils travel over to face Rohan Smith’s Leeds Rhinos.

The fixture pits 8th placed Leeds against 5th placed Salford however both teams have won three from their last five, albeit for Salford it’s actually three wins on the spin.

That run of form has seen them manage tight two-point victories over both Leigh and Catalans highlighting that they can win games gritty.

They’ll have a task on their hands against the Rhinos, who whilst their form in general is up and down, actually have a near-perfect record at Headingley having won four on the spin since their first home game of the season.

That loss came against Hull FC, which they’ve since avenged, and so they host Paul Rowley’s men with four Headingley wins in a row and a run of four home victories over Salford, dating back to 2019 since their last home loss against Friday’s opponents.

Smith made two changes to the 21 man squad that faced Leigh Leopards last time out. Aidan Sezer left that defeat with an injury at half time and misses out this week.

Sezer has now been ruled out for a number of weeks. The big question was how would Smith replace him?

Jack Sinfield would be the like for like replacement. The halfback is yet to play this year however.

Morgan Gannon was named in the squad and played in the halves in pre-season but Smith ruled this out.

The other option was naming fullback Richie Myler in the halves with Ash Handley at fullback.

The team news is now in and Smith has given Sinfield his first appearance of the season with Myler at fullback.

Handley stays on the wing with Liam Tindall set to feature for Bradford Bulls on dual registration.

Sam Lisone again starts with England international Tom Holroyd on the bench.

Sam Walters returns to the side and Morgan Gannon returns after a lengthy absence due to concussion.

Zane Tetevano and Justin Sangare miss out. Sangare played for France last week.

As for Salford Red Devils they bring in Ellis Longstaff in the centres in place of Matt Costello.

Former Leeds academy player and England international Tyler Dupree starts.
