RL Rumours: Olympian set for Super League move, Brad Schneider to return to the NRL and Burgess lines up Melbourne Storm centre

Below is a round-up of all the biggest rumours and gossip from the world of rugby league over the past week.

Olympian set to pen deal with Leeds Rhinos

Former Olympic Rugby Union Sevens player, and current Newcastle Knights full back Lachie Miller has agreed a three-year-deal to take him to Headingley, according to the Mole from the World Wide of Sports. Miller crossed over into Rugby League ahead of the 2022 NRL season following a spell in Rugby Union Sevens. In his first season, he played seven games for Cronulla, scoring three tries in the process. He now ply’s his trade at the Knights, where he has made 11 appearances this campaign. He also has two tries to his name so far in 2023.

Brad Schneider linked with return to the NRL

Brad Schneider has already cemented himself in Hull KR folklore following his Headingley heroics; however it looks like he will be on his way back to Australia at the end of the season, with the Canberra Times linking him with a move to reigning NRL Premiers Penrith Panthers. The Robins have already announced the capture of Catalans Dragons stand-off Tyrone May, which all but confirmed Schneider’s stay in East Yorkshire would come to an end at the conclusion of the season, and this latest report makes it look even more likely.

Burgess plotting move for NRL man

Sam Burgess has already been confirmed as Warrington Wolves Head Coach for next season, and it looks like he has made a head start on recruitment. Reports have surfaced in Australia suggesting that he is lining up a play for Melbourne Storm centre Justin Olam. Olam has fallen out of favour in Melbourne, and it looks like Burgess could offer him a fresh opportunity at the Halliwell Jones. The Wire have also been linked with a move for Burgess’ brother Tom; but this talk has since petered out.

Tony Smith teases new signings for Hull FC

Hull FC have already announced the capture of Hermen Ese’ese from NRL side the Dolphins; however Tony Smith has teased more potential arrivals at the MKM. Speaking to BBC Radio Humberside, Smith said: “We’ll welcome him for a really big pre-season and get himself into best physical shape he can be. I’m sure he’ll be successful within Super League but for us as well. I think he’ll be a big force for us next year and we’ll get a few more around him and that’ll help too.” Could we see more announcements from the Airlie Birds soon?

Leeds Rhinos take halfback search worldwide

Leeds have already been linked with one import ahead of the 2024 season; however Head Coach Rohan Smith has confirmed the club are taking their search global. Speaking to the media last week, Smith said: “We’re in the market for halves and we’re talking to people throughout the world of rugby league.” The Headingley outfit have also been linked with a play for Hull KR halfback Rowan Milnes; however with Aidan Sezer’s move to Wests Tigers now confirmed they will need to double their efforts.
